Joe Specht was the visionary behind the Hungry Lion Bike Tour. He combined his passion for cycling with his commitment to making a difference in the Deerfield Valley community, by creating the Hungry Lion Bike Tour in 2011. Hurrican Irene canceled the first event but the tour has been growing since the first annual wtih 30 or so riders in 2012. Over the years, the event has grossed $80,000 to assist with the hunger fight in southern Vermont. Your contribution, in Joe's honor, will go directly to hunger relief in our community through the Whitingham-Halifax Lions Food Basket program and other initiatives aimed at providing sustainance for those facing food insecurity.
In 2017, Joe earned the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the most presitgious recognition for Lions internationally for his leadership and service to the Whitingham-Halifax Lions. He will be missed but his legacy will live on. Thank you for your help.
