Dear friends,
I am writing to ask for your support in riding for the Oakland Gran Fondo on October 23rd to support Bike East Bay, a great cycling advocacy organization. I am riding 55 miles, up and down the Oakland hills, and am asking for a dollar a mile but of course, any donation would help.
I believe in the organization so much that, a year ago, I ran, and was elected, to the board. At Bike East Bay are trying to make cycling safe for families, commuters and weekend warriors. Our work is seen as a model for other cities.
Bike East Bay’s top priorities this year:
-
Increasing protected bike lanes
-
Completing the bike lane across the bridge to San Francisco
-
Giving free bike classes so young and old alike can learn to ride,
-
Pushing cities in our region to repave dangerous roads.
-
Making biking a central part of city transportation infrastructure
Thanks to all of you who cycle and all of you who support cyclists!
Nancy
Your registration for the Oakland Gran Fondo supports Bike East Bay’s mission to make bicycling safe, fun and accessible for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Backed by over 4,000 members, Bike East Bay has been advocating for better bicycling for over 40 years. We empower our members, volunteers, and partner community groups to champion bike lanes and traffic safety solutions.
We work with transit agencies and local governments to build bike-specific infrastructure and shape bike-friendly policies. As a regional watchdog, we ensure that cities complete bicycle master plans and allocate adequate funding and staff to building bike networks. We help build world-class bike infrastructure by pushing cities to design competitive, innovative projects that will attract state and federal funding for construction.
Our biggest regional victories include securing all hours bike access on BART, making it the most bike-friendly transit agency in the country. We’re also making regional connections possible with the soon to be completed bike paths on both the Richmond Bridge and the East Span of the Bay Bridge.
