I run a charitable organization called Hoops for Epilepsy. This foundation was started to collect money for the Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia (EFVA). Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes the brain to send too many signals to the body at once, resulting in a seizure. A school IB project inspired me to start this foundation three years ago. We had to do a community and service project, and I did a free-throw contest to raise money for EFVA. I raised a total of $115. I was extremely pleased with this, but I wanted to do more because this is not a well-known disorder. My brother, Brenden, was diagnosed at the age of six with Epilepsy, causing him to have full body seizures. He was fortunate enough to outgrow it by age eleven, which is not common.
I wish to support this event because it is the EFVA's mission to dispel the many myths surrounding epilepsy. They let people know that people with seizures have a safer work record with less absenteeism. They let people know that epilepsy is no obstacle to safe parenting with certain precautions. Please help them advocate for the 80,000 persons with epilepsy in Virginia.
Thank you very much for your support!!
