I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes over twelve years ago. Diabetes presents different and every evolving challenges as I grow up and continue to learn how to pursue my dreams while also navigating life with diabetes. The charity of this year's "Running on Insulin" 5K is Beyond Type 1 - an organization making use of contempory social media platforms to help reach out to an ever increasing number of people - diabetes, their families, other affects by diabetes, and people who are just curious about diabetes. Beyond Type 1 not only provides an amazing array of resources for diabetes, but it also has programs/initiatves evolving around increasing awareness and education about T1D. Speaking personally, I can no longer count the number of times that I have gone to Beyond Type 1 with a question and have found not only the answer to my question but have been met with an online community - giving me reassurance and additional resources to figuring out how to move forward in chasing my own dreams.
