Welcome! Here is a how it all works...
The Food Justice Bike Ride is a great example of how a Community can come together to support a worthwhile cause while having funn doing it and Franklin County is a perfect example of that. All the money raised through my participation in this ride will benefit the families below the poverty level who get their food from Just Roots Farm (a non-profit 501c3 cooperative) using their participation in the Healthy Incetives Program (HIP) which operates under SNAP (commonly know as the Food Stamp program). All the money raised will provide each family with a $100 credit toward the cost of their farm share. This is nutritious food will help these families eat right while also keeping our local non-profit farm operating, a true win-win. We hope to raise enough money to cover up to 100 families. All money raised through fundraising and registration fees will go directly toward benefitting these families.
Contributions of all amounts add up and will make a difference.
Food Justice Bike Ride - 2019
The 2019 Food Justice Bike Ride will take place on June 30 with the start and finish taking place at the Just Roots Community Farm in Greenfield, Ma. All entry fees and fundraising $ will subsidize low income families who purchase their food shares at Just Roots Community Farm, a non-profit 501c3 cooperative that grows food and provides educational seminars on farming. The rides of 18 and 42 miles will venture over the rolling hills in the countryside of Franklin County. There will be refreshment stops and a meal provided at the end that will be catered by Stone Soup Cafe. The entry fee is $30 and the suggested fundraising goal for each participant is $150 and for each team, $750. The event is capped at a total of 100 riders.
Food Justice Bike Ride is a newly formed 501 (c) (3) non-profit company created with the mission to create and operate local bike rides for the purpose of fighting hunger in our community. We plan to do this by raising funds through rider entry fees and participant fundraising to directly benefit those in the community who are in need of nutritious food. This year's ride will benefit below poverty level income families acquire nutritious food from a local non-profit 501c3 cooperative, Just Roots Greenfield Community Farm as part of their CSA Farm Shares program. Qualifying families will receive a generous subsidy from this program. We hope to benefit up to 100 families.
