Every summer, I set aside personal time to train in advance of pedaling a grueling 100-mile course through the autumn hills and farmland of the Pioneer Valley. This is a part of my own annual contribution and preparation for The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts’ Will Bike 4 Food charity cycling event on September 29th.
On Sunday, September 15th, I will once again ride my 100-mile course during national Hunger Action Month and raise money to provide healthy, nutritious food to individuals and families who need help in Hampshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Berkshire counties.
This year, we heard from many people who sent letters and testimonials to express their gratitude: a single mom escaping domestic violence, a restaurant employee struggling with the costs of insulin and housing, a widow trying to hold onto the home she shared with her late husband, displaced students working full-time in the evenings to survive, and workers who temporarily lost their jobs during the government shutdown.
Your support will literally heal families while strengthening the community. Our commitment is to continue to feed those in need and develop creative, long-lasting solutions to solve hunger. Last year, Will Bike 4 Food raised over $170,000. My own goal is to raise $15,000 (the equivalent of 45,000 meals). I hope I can count on you to sponsor my ride so we will feed more people, healthier food.

Since 1982, The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts has been feeding our neighbors in need and leading the community to end hunger. We distribute food to our member agencies in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties. These independent pantries, meal sites and shelters are on the front lines of emergency food assistance in our region, playing a crucial role helping individuals, families, seniors and children. Every $1 donated to The Food Bank can purchase 4 meals for a family who needs them most.
