Ride Against Racism 50/50 Challenge
Riders Against Racism (RAR) uses mountain biking and other human powered outdoor sports to break down race and class barriers to outdoor recreation.
Through our 50/50 virtual challenges we promote diversity among cyclists while building outreach to the BIPOC community through friendly competition in our virtual events.
The first Ride Against Racism challenge included outreach to the Washoe Tribe near Lake Tahoe to support their efforts to silence the racist Minden 6pm "sundown" siren. For more information on the history of the siren check out this online petition we started in the summer of 2020: http://chng.it/VgwNWKCGGy
Here is a link to the news story about the sundown siren featuring RAR founder Matt Niswonger along with some of our allies within the Washoe — Click here to watch the video.
Our second Ride Against Racism will allow participants to continue to fundraise for the Washoe Tribe, this time for their Outdoor Expedition Program.
Starting with RAR #2 — participants can choose to fundraise or ride in support of an organiation in their own community doing work to support anti-racism or inclusivity in the outdoors.
