Both cycling and mental illness have long had major impacts on my life. Having lived for over a decade with undiagnosed bipolar disorder before finally receiving proper diagnosis and treatment in early 2019, I have personally experienced the tumult and often overwhelming reality of mental illness. I am only where I am today because I have been fortunate enough to have access to quality mental health care. An avid cyclist and dedicated bicycle commuter since my mid 20s, cycling has always helped me find inner peace while supporting both my physical and mental health. I'm now working toward my goal of becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner so that I can apply my own talents and personal experience toward helping others suffering from mental illness and toward creating more equitable access to quality mental health care. I'm thrilled for this opportunity to apply my passion for cycling toward fundraising for a cause of deep personal meaning to me. As a virtual participant, I won't be participating in the in-person ride, so I encourage you to check out my Strava page to follow my rides this year — I promise I'll start posting more photos from the road. For those able to contribute, my sincere thanks for your generous donation in support of mental health research, treatment, and education. For those unable to donate, thank you for your support.
The Ride for Mental Health 2021
The Ride for Mental Health is one of the first rides in the country to benefit mental health. The proceeds raised will be donated to McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, for the education, research, and treatment of mental illness including anxiety, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders and substance abuse. Our mission is to raise funds for McLean so that we can help accelerate the progress being made to help others who suffer from mental illness.
We also hope to end the stigma surrounding mental illness through education and awareness. The promotion of this ride is a start. Many if not most of us are touched by close friends and relatives who have suffered from one type or another of mental illness.
Eric's Ride Inc. is a New York not for profit corporation with 501(c)(3) status. 100% of rider pledges will be donated to McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate.
