UMass CICS Touring Machines
At UMass Amherst, the College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) envisions a world where computing enhances the well-being of our citizenry. As a community of faculty, staff, and students, we are committed to research, education, and service that create positive change in our world. [See: https://www.cics.umass.edu/vision-mission-values]
Team Touring Machines is a group of CICS faculty and staff who will be riding separately as well as together to support Will Bike 4 Food during the month of September 2020.
We find it appalling that so many in our region – including students at UMass Amherst, and underserved residents of cities and towns in Western MA – are “food insecure”, and don’t know when or how they will get their next meal. The Food Bank provides food to their members in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties. These independent pantries, meal sites and shelters are on the front lines of emergency food assistance in our region, providing sustenance to individuals, families, seniors, children and people with disabilities (including veterans) to lead healthy and meaningful lives.
Every mile our team members ride in September will be logged “in support of” Will Bike 4 Food. But we will also ride together as a team on Saturday, September 26th, aiming to complete a route of at least 75 miles. We are going to push beyond our comfort zones as we do our part to end the scourge of food insecurity.
Together, we roll.

The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts
Since 1982, The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts has been feeding our neighbors in need and leading the community to end hunger. We distribute food to our member agencies in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties. These independent pantries, meal sites and shelters are on the front lines of emergency food assistance in our region, playing a crucial role helping individuals, families, seniors and children. Every $1 donated to The Food Bank can purchase 4 meals for a family who needs them most.
