Thank you for considering a donation to my first ride with Second Summer Cycle. I'll be riding alongside TeamASGCC on September 15th, raising funds for AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod (ASGCC).
As you may know, I started working with ASGCC at the start of 2012. My first years with the agency were spent doing frontline work, mostly with clients living with HIV, and then eventually I moved into leadership.
ASGCC has proudly served the LGBTQ+ community since 1983. Its first years were focused solely on providing vitally needed services for (at the time mostly) gay men who’d been diagnosed with AIDS (HIV, the virus that leads to AIDS wasn’t recognized and named as such until 1986). In many cases, these men were losing employment and housing; rejection from their families was far too common. People forget, being an out gay man in 1983 looked a lot different than it does today.
People came to Ptown to die. Now they come here to live.
ASGCC’s roots are firmly in serving people who are too often marginalized due to stigma and discrimination. Homophobia – and transphobia in particular – are still very much with us. And ASGCC serves other groups who experience stigma, such as those who use drugs.
ASGCC's work goes far beyond HIV and the LGBTQ+ community. ASGCC has led the Cape Cod response to the opioid epidemic from as early as 1995; it is the #1 provider of NARCAN (the opioid-blocking medication which reverses overdoses) on the Cape and Islands, and ASGCC-provided NARCAN has been used thousands of times to save lives of thousands of residents and visitors of the Cape and Islands.
ALL of ASGCC’s services are free, and we need your help. Massive cuts to the HIV Line Item were enacted on July 1st of this year; these have greatly impacted this nonprofit. Likewise, other funding sources for HIV – such as the federal 340B program – are under attack and have already greatly impacted our income. And what many don't know is that much of the opioid-response funding lives under the HIV line item. Yep, that got cut too.
The costs to deliver our services far exceeds our funding. YOU CAN HELP!
By donating to my page (or by registering as a rider, and selecting AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod as your beneficiary) your donation will go directly to ASGCC’s services. If you donate $500, you can rest easily knowing that those $500 will go directly to ASGCC.
This agency has been a safe haven for literally thousands of people over the past 40+ years. Please help me meet my goal of $2,500 to support ASGCC's FREE services.

Cape Cod's Second Summer Cycle
A Charity Ride Benefitting 19 Cape Cod Non-Profit Organizations
The Second Summer Cycle is the perfect event for riders of all levels, offering a picturesque journey through 11 historic Cape Cod towns and a strong commitment to rider safety. Three distances are being offered, 33, 69, and 100 miles with the final stop being a celebration at Motta Field in beautiful Provincetown. Dance to the music of Sarah Swain and the Oh Boys, use your $30 worth of vouchers provided as part of your registration to purchase food from 4 different food trucks, to include cold beverages provided by Barnstable Brewing Company, with Second Summer Cycle cans as memorabilia!
Nineteen Cape Cod non-profit organizations will benefit from the monies generated by the riders, each of whom is asked to raise at least $250 for their non-profit of choice, or to be disseminated across all 19 charities, in addition to the registration fee.
Ample hydration and nutrition stops will be strategically positioned along the course, along with medical and physical therapy stations equipped with tents and tables to ensure participants' comfort and well-being.

Hosted by: Second Summer Cycle, LLC, a 501c3, non-profit organization.
Beneficiaries: All money raised by the riders will be paid directly to the beneficiaries. Riders are expected to raise at least $250.00 each, and each beneficiary team is expected to raise $5,000.00.
Pricing:
- Century (100 miles): $125.00
- Metric Century Plus (69 miles): $95.00
- 33 Mile Ride: $80.00
Return to the starts: Bus transportation will be provided back to the starts along with trucks for your bikes. If you wish, you may have someone meet you at the finish line, where they may purchase a $30 packet of food truck vouchers to be used at Motta Field. Bus transportation back to the starts costs $20.00 per person, which includes both bus and bike transportation. The bikes will be in a separate vehicle.
Safety: We will have marshals at every turn to help guide riders, and motorcyclists will be patrolling the entire course.
Support services: Bike shops will be represented along the course to help with any technical issues. There will also be SAG vehicles to help riders who need support or a pickup along the course.

AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod was founded 1983 by a group of volunteers who were responding to the emerging HIV/AIDS pandemic. From day one, ASGCC (then Provincetown AIDS Support Group) has been fighting for the rights AND the lives of those we serve. From our early days supporting gay men who were losing housing, employment and – too often – their lives to HIV/AIDS, to today as we serve not only the LGBTQ+ community, but other communities who are impacted by the intersection of stigma and public health – like those who are at risk of death by opioid overdose – ASGCC proudly serves communities across the entirety of the Cape & Islands.
Today we serve over 400 people who are living with HIV, hundreds of people who use drugs, and thousands who receive our other services, such as sexual health screenings (to prevent HIV and other STIs), community NARCAN trainings, MPOX Vaccines, and more.
ASGCC is committed to making a different in the lives of the communities we serve, including all visitors and residents of the Cape and Islands. Now in our fifth decade, all ASGCC services are designed to empower those we serve. We believe in the dignity of all, inclusive of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation/identity, socio-economic status, housing status, health status, and relationship to substances.
ASGCC is a nonprofit, and as such we need you. We’ve set a goal of raising $30,000 with this year’s ride – and it’ll take a village!
