On September 4th I am running/walking the 26 mile Eagle Loop Trail in Arkansas to support research to cure Alzheimer's Disease. My run will be part of AlzRun, a team of people from all over the country running challenging and magnificent trails to raise money for Cure Alzheimer's Fund.
I am running in memory of my dad, Richard Caffery, and in support of my brother, Glenn Caffery, who will be running a trail run in every state.
When our father was only 54 years of age, he received the devasting diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease. He was a very young and fit man and the disease rapidly progressed taking him from us far too early. They often say that there is more than one victim of this disease as the lives of the primary caregivers change as well. Our mother was an amazing caregiver and advocate for both our dad and for the Alzheimers community as a whole. Glenn has continued with the advocacy through Alzrun.org. As some of you know, I have just finished a big bike ride, so I have gotten into some kind of shape. Now does this mean that I can run 26 miles? I doubt it. But I will do what I can, whether it be walking or running. I am looking forward to supporting my brother in any way that I can.
The funds we raise will go directly to Cure Alzheimer's Fund. I am impressed by how much they have contributed to our understanding of Alzheimer’s. They direct 100% of donations toward high-impact research. Our contributions will make a difference!
