Thank you for visiting my King Challenge fundraising page! I am happy to support the David Krempels Brain Injury Center through this awesome event.
I am privleged to co-host the Gravel Kings Podcast alongside Ted and Laura King. On occassion we have discussed the stroke that forever changed Ted's life and the life of his whole family: at the age of 57, his father, an active and successful orthopedic surgeon suffered a stroke. As ted describes it in a blog post, "It was an ischemic stroke caused by a dissection of the carotid artery, which means he somehow suffered trauma to the artery in his neck." It has been a steady decline for Dr. King, I know it has impacted the whole King family in profoundly transformative ways. There is a compassion and tenderness in Ted and Laura that is likely just part of their character, but I have to believe this was aided by the life change they have experienced. Their kids love their grandpa and I have heard stories of their visits with him in the care facility. These stories have moved me. Why do these things happen, and how does a family play the hand they are dealt with dignity and strength? I fail to find sufficient answers to those questions, but at least I can join Ted and Laura in raising awareness and funding through The King Challenge. Afterall, if you love somebody, what matters to them will inveribly matter to you.
When I learned that the 2024 King Challenge would be the King's last time as official hosts, I knew I wanted to lend a hand of support to my friends for this worthy cause. I will be there with them to complete the ride, and ask that you join me in generosity toward the cause.
Please donate. Every penny you give goes directly to the David Krempels Brain Injury Center. Every little bit makes a difference, and let's face it: I will never be alongside Ted or Laura at the end of a tough gravel race, so coming alongside them in this is a real joy.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support - and please forward this to anyone you think might want to donate and support KBIC! It's easy to share on social media too!
