Welcome to my fundraising page for the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry Walk for Warmth!
Hi Friends,
Victoria was thrilled with the fundraising we (yes, you) achieved last year. I didn't really appreciate how important these little amounts are. Now WAIM has a new director and I'm pretty sure they will appreciate our efforts again. I wish you could have felt the appreciation. So, I pass it on to you now. If you are up for it, lets do it again. Below is WAIM's formal request.
Thanks and love, Sarah
Did you know that many of our neighbors with incomes below the federal poverty line spend between 14% to 29% of their their household income (depending on their source of heat) to heat their home?
Did you know that many of our neighbors with incomes at 100% to 150% of the federal poverty line spend between 8% to 12% of their their household income (depending on their source of heat) to heat their home?
In addition, rents have increased dramatically over the past two years, and many individuals and famiies are stretched too thin to make ends meet.
Some families are forced to choose between paying rent, forgoing other basic needs, feeding their families, or keeping their heat on.
Since 1984, WAIM has been helping people stay safe and warm in their homes and I am very excited to help them help my neighbors. You can help, too, by supporting my efforts in this year's Walk for Warmth.
Anything you can give to support this effort will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
WAIM Walk for Warmth
Windham Area Interfaith Ministry's annual Walk for Warmth brings our community together to raise funds for our neighbors who are struggling financially and cannot afford to pay for heat, electricity, basic needs or who have fallen behind in their rent.
85% of these funds are raised through this event. This past year, WAIM helped over 1,300 individuals and families. We would not be able to help our neighbors in need if it weren't for the support of people like you!
Community members will gather together on November 24th at The First Congregational Church in Willimantic. Following the Interfaith Thanksgiving service, everyone will walk an easy two-mile route, then return to the church for snacks and celebration!. Those who are still uncomfortable in a crowd and would rather walk alone, or with family or friends at a different time can still raise funds for the Walk for Warmth by registering for a "virtual walk."
However you choose to support this event, 100% of funds raised will go directly to help our neighbors when they are most in need.
