Welcome to my fundraising page for the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry Walk for Warmth!
UPDATE TWO!! The generoity of my Facebook friends and family is AMAZING!! You've exceeded BOTH of the fundrraising goal I set, and there are still 10 days to go before the walk!! Let's gear up for a final push, and get thid fundraiser total to $300 for WAIM!!
UPDATE!! You've all been SO terrific to contribute that I increased my fundraising goal! Thank you SO much fur supporting this bent and me as a walker!!
As the new Consulting Minister for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Storrs, I've been fortunate to hear great info about WAIM and the excellent work they do. I'm excited to participate in this worthy and much-needed event to raise funds for WAIM. Did you know that many of our neighbors with incomes below the federal poverty line spend between 14% to 29% of their household income (depending on their heat source) to heat their homes?
In addition - did you know that many of our neighbors with incomes at 100% to 150% of the federal poverty line spend between 8% to 12% of their household income (depending on their heat source) to heat their homes?
In addition, rents have increased dramatically over the past two years, and many individuals and families are stretched too thin to make ends meet.
Some families are forced to choose between paying rent, forgoing other basic needs, feeding their families, or keeping their heat on.
Since 1984, WAIM has been helping people stay safe and warm in their homes, and I am very excited to help them help my neighbors. You can help, too, by supporting my efforts in this year's Walk for Warmth.
Anything you can give to support this effort will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!
WAIM Walk for Warmth
Windham Area Interfaith Ministry's annual Walk for Warmth brings our community together to raise funds for our neighbors who are struggling financially and cannot afford to pay for heat, electricity, basic needs or who have fallen behind in their rent.
85% of these funds are raised through this event. This past year, WAIM helped over 1,300 individuals and families. We would not be able to help our neighbors in need if it weren't for the support of people like you!
Community members will gather together on November 24th at The First Congregational Church in Willimantic. Following the Interfaith Thanksgiving service, everyone will walk an easy two-mile route, then return to the church for snacks and celebration!. Those who are still uncomfortable in a crowd and would rather walk alone, or with family or friends at a different time can still raise funds for the Walk for Warmth by registering for a "virtual walk."
However you choose to support this event, 100% of funds raised will go directly to help our neighbors when they are most in need.
