“When you rape, beat, maim, mutilate, burn, bury, and terrorize women, you destroy the essential life energy on the planet.” - Eve Ensler
When I was a senior in high school I participated in a production of Eve Ensler's Vagina Monologues. The Women's Rights Club that I was a part of was told that we could not perform the fundraising show inside our school, so we found a more welcoming space in Northampton. From that moment on I had the bug, finding ways of fighting for a family's right to be safe from abuse and violence. This experience along with many others, strong women I have met, and family members that I love have led me to fight against domestic and sexual abuse towards women. It was only natural that I decided to run my first ever 5k in honor of each and every one of those stories, those women.
So, thank you for visiting my Hot Chocolate Run fundraising page! On December 8, I'm running in the 10th Annual Hot Chocolate Run. This great event raises funds for Safe Passage, the organization addressing domestic violence in Hampshire County. Will you join me in supporting this terrific organization?
Every day, Safe Passage helps women and children take steps towards a brighter and safer future. Some of these steps are easier, and some are harder. Every step is important.
Before I run, I’ve decided to Step Up for Safe Passage, and I’m asking you to join me. Please make a donation to support Safe Passage’s important work. Safe Passage relies on people like you and me to bring hope, safety, and justice to women and families.
Here are some ways Safe Passage will put your gift to work:
$25: Resources, support and hope for a woman calling the 24-hour hotline
$75: Safe transportation for a family traveling to Safe Passage’s emergency shelter
$80: A drop-in support group session for survivors of domestic violence
$140: Education for parents on talking with their kids about domestic violence
$500: Healing counseling for a child who has witnessed violence
All contributions are tax-deductible, and you’ll receive an emailed receipt immediately after you donate.
You can make a difference for families affected by domestic violence. I hope you’ll join me!
Thank you so much for your support! If you want to register for the event or learn more about it, visit http://hotchocolaterun.com.
