As a teacher of elementary-aged students, I have seen the impact that a Children's Advocate can make on young people’s lives. Kids need someone to be their voice in situations where they are either too young to speak for themselves, or have been through a traumatic experience. This year, one of the goals Safe Passage has set is to be able to raise enough funds through the Hot Chocolate Run to add a full-time Children’s Advocate to their staff.

This year, I am running this race in honor of one of my dearest friends, who has recently freed herself from a domestic violence situation. It is so empowering to witness the positive changes she has been experiencing as a result of her brave decision to end this toxic relationship. I am so proud of her decision to make her own well-being a priority, but I know that there are many more women and children out there who may not have a support system of family and friends to help them end the cycle of violence. Safe Passage can help so many of these people who may otherwise be unable to help themselves.
