Hello friends and family!
This year's event will mark my last 100-mile race, twenty-five years adrer having surgery to remove a liposarcoma from my left leg. Dr. John Makeley at University Hospitals in Cleveland led a team that not only saved my leg, but allowed me to run unhindered since. As I'm now 46, and training for long runs takes longer and exerts more of a physical toll on me, I've decided that this is an appropriate and poignant time to run my last century. Accompanying me will be my two daughters, Katherine and Caroline, and my wife Lisa. One of my best friends, Todd Heady, will assist his incredible wife Cynthia on the course too.
It's fitting that the race benefits Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, which provides access to recreational and competitive athletic training, equipment and support for people who have disabilities in the areas of hiking, running, biking, skiing, snow snowshoeing, horse back riding, rock climbing, boating and more.
Thank you for considering a donation to VASS. At 4:00am on Saturday, July 18, I'll embark on an arduous journey with gratitude, inspiration, and appreciation, with plenty of time to savor the ups and downs, trusting my legs to carry me the distance.
Peace,
Rowly
