Thank you for visiting my King Challenge fundraising page!
On Friday, August 2nd 2018 , my life changed for the best.
Burst blood vessel in my brain, located deep in the pons, next to the brain stem.
It was a scary event, that left me unable to do many things I previously took for granted. The path led me to RI hospital where my nurses and doctors, took amazing care of me.
7 days later, they sent me to in-patient rehab at Kent Hospital in Warwick.
Being as impatient as I am, I was eager to start the process of re-habilitation. in my mind, this would be a quick visit, as I was eager to get home. Once the process was started, it was a grim reminder, of how many deficits ( their words) I currently had. Dr Johnson made me realize just how much cognitive deficits I had, and it was humbling.
Riding my bikes, well, I'll be honest, I took for granted.
On Halloween Night 2018, I saw a JUMP e-bike, outside of Doreen's place in Providence. Doreen would be down in a couple minutes, but my impulse was to see if I had recovered my balance enough to ride again. I knew she wouldn't want me to fall, as I was still walking like a drunken sailor, but i had to see if it was possible. The first few feet were shaky, but i stayed upright. My fear quickly turned to happiness! She came down and was not at all happy to see me on that bike, but as soon as she saw my glee, that frown turned into a smile.
It's been an amazing year filled with love, fear, humility, growth, hard work, determination, and appreciation for those who supported me through the journey. In hindsight, it has changed me for the better, and i wouldn't have changed a thing ( except I would definitely have had that hotdog ! ).
I am going to ride this event, and raise funds for those that are not as lucky, as i have been!
Please give what you can, every dollar matters!
Thanks and Love You all!
