Norman deLeuze, a 70 year old rocket scientist turned wine maker presented to my clinic with advanced stage mantle cell lymphoma. As with other major universities, I offered him standard chemotherapy. Norman refused stating “I know there is something better and less toxic”. I supported Norman’s quest for discovering novel, less toxic therapies. After relentless progression of his lymphoma, it suddenly began to shrink. He was taking a naturoceutical, discovered in Hungary.
As a traditional oncologist and immunologist, my research focused on traditional immune based therapies. In 2007, Norman lost his battle with lymphoma however with the continued support of the deLeuze family my research expanded to include these natural substances as well as less toxic immune-based therapeutics. Fourteen years later, after countless hours in the lab, multiple publications and a patent, we are poised to translate these new discoveries into human patients. Norman taught me to think “outside the box”, and for this I will be eternally grateful. To continue this promising research we need your help!
Come ride, eat, and drink great wine with us at the Crush Challenge. If you cannot make it and you have the ability to make a contribution to Team UC Davis Health instead, it would be very much appreciated. No donation is too small.
Hope to see you there
With gratitude

Crush Challenge // October 9, 2021
Crush Challenge, hosted by the deLeuze Family Charitable Foundation and ZD Wines, is an unparalleled event in the Napa Valley, bringing together people from all over the country to join us in supporting our beneficiaries.
Experience the beauty of Napa Valley on a private cycling excursion (25- or 37-mile options) that will depart from Veterans Memorial Park in Yountville. Pass through vineyard-lined avenues, sharing the road with cycling pros and friends of Crush Challenge (previous pros: Freddie Rodriguez, Alison Tetrick, Alex Steida, Brent and Jamie Bookwalter, Levi Leipheimer, and Christian Vande Velde). Enjoy a “rest stop” at ZD Wines in Rutherford to imbibe in the barrel tasting and food bites.
Following the ride, indulge in the all-inclusive Food & Wine Marketplace with live music paired with delicious food and wine from Napa Valley restaurants and wineries to round out the afternoon.
Crush Challenge was established in 2014 as a way to showcase the best of Napa Valley while bringing awareness and funding to a select group of worthy charities.
We welcome you to join on August 26 to enjoy a harvest day in the beautiful Napa Valley while helping our deserving beneficiaries: UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Teen Center at Boys & Girls Clubs of Napa Valley. 100% of our net proceeds will go to these charities.
The deLeuze Family Charitable Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization.
