Hello-
As some of you may recall, I was registered to run the Vermont 100 last July (2023) as a member of the Vermont Adaptive Fundraising Team. Unfortunately, Vermont experienced severe storms and devastating flooding prior to the race, resulting in its cancellation. Disappointing, but definitely the right call. The race and the team still raised a lot of money for Vermont Adaptive and for the people and communities affected by the flooding as well.
I am giving the fundraising and the race another go this year. I hope to run the 100-miler in July, 2024. If I am unable to qualify for the 100-miler (by completing a 50-mile race in under 12 hours this spring), then I will attempt the 100 kilometer (62 miles) distance on race day. It has been a long time since I've finished a race this far, and I feel like I'm rapidly aging up and slowing down. It will be tough for sure, but I am looking forward to the training and to challenge on race day.
I am not the best at this fundraising stuff. I'm not on social media and probably won't provide many chipper updates on my training with mountaintop selfies. You can follow me on Strava if you want to see a lot of slow miles over the trails and streets of Falmouth.
I can assure you that your donated dollars will go to a very cool cause. Vermont Adaptive is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that empowers people of all disabilities through inclusive sports and recreational programming regardless of their ability to pay. The organization believes sports and recreation provide a physical, mental and social experience that is immeasurable in promoting self-confidence and independence in an individual. In addition to sports, year round programming options integrate environmental, holistic wellness, and competitive training philosophies for people of all ages with cognitive, developmental, physical and emotional/behavioral disabilities. Programs include skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and Nordic in the winter; and sailing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, cycling, rock climbing, horseback riding, and more in the warmer months.
Please consider to please consider donating what you can.
