Welcome to my Community Bike Works 2022 Cycle Challenge fundraising page!
From cruising around the neighborhood with friends as a kid to commuting to work in adulthood, biking has always been part of my life. Cycling provides a sense of freedom and empowerment unmatched by other modes, and I believe it should be accessible for everyone! For this reason (and more), I'm very excited to raise money for Community Bike Works' youth mentoring programs.
Community Bike Works' free mentoring programs provide kids with the means to build and ride their own bikes, teaching them STEM skills while building good citizenship skills. The Earn a Bike program connects youth ages 9-18 with mentors to learn lessons in bike mechanics and safety. While learning tool use, bike repair, and safe riding, students also practice life skills including communication, teamwork, and perseverance.
In Junior Earn a Bike, second- and third-graders practice social-emotional learning while learning about reading, riding, and wrenching. Junior Earn a Bike students learn that, just as building a bike requires tools and parts, building a healthy emotional life requires social and emotional tools they can learn to use. Students are also invited to participate in optional in-person riding days, where they can practice their riding skills with their instructor’s help. When students complete either of these programs, they earn their refurbished bike and a new helmet!
To support this programming, a team of my coworkers at Michael Baker will be getting active for 12 days of cycling, walking, running, and other movement between September 22 and October 3. We'll be competing with other local teams for distance traveled and money raised, and we need your support! I hope you share my enthusiasm for the Community Bike Works mission and will consider donating to support this campaign.
Thank you very much, and we'll see you on the trails!

Community Bike Works 2022 Cycle Challenge
*** THANK YOU to everyone involved in making the 2022 Cycle Challenge possible - We were able to raise over $100,000 for youth bike mentoring! While the in-person events are over, we extended the event timeline so any donations that still come through PledgeReg in October will go towards our youth bike mentoring programs, helping us teach kids across the Lehigh Valley bike mechanics and how to ride. Thank you to our sponsors, riders, and Challenge members, and we look forward to riding with you again in 2023!! ***
Community Bike Works and Lehigh Valley Health Network are thrilled to present the 2022 Cycle Challenge, which encourages members of our community to get active in supporting the young people of Community Bike Works.
This year's 12-day challenge lasted from Thursday, September 22 to Monday, October 3. From October 4 to October 12, we are fundraising to meet our ambitious $100,000 goal!
You can donate to a specific team or individual in the challenge. We offer prizes for the top fundraisers, but everyone here is winning by contributing to Community Bike Works’ Earn a Bike Program! If you don’t know anyone in the challenge, consider donating to one of the three Bike Works Student Teams. You can also “Donate to this Organization.”
Questions? Please contact us at 610-355-4864 or [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your support,
The Community Bike Works Event Team
Community Bike Works teaches life lessons through bicycles to the young people of the Lehigh Valley who could benefit most.
- We offer high-quality mentoring programs that use bicycles and books to connect youth with adult and peer mentors who can teach them skills that help them succeed.
- In order to help students reach their full potential, we offer additional resources and partner with organizations to help strengthen students’ families and the community.
- In all we do, we seek to give students and families a meaningful voice in our work. We strive to be an organization of racial and economic justice and equality, not charity.
Through our Earn a Bike and Junior Earn a Bike programs, we connect students with mentors and lessons in bike mechanics and safety. At the end of the program, students earn their bike and a helmet, and are invited to take part in our afterschool and summer enrichment programs.
