Dear Family and Friends,
A little over a year ago, I found a new sport. I started racing my bike. I met a group of strong, amazing women who showed me the ropes and I am now their team mate. I am humbled and inspired by them every day. They have lives and families and still train incredibly hard and race so well. I pinch myself that I am one of them. This season our team joined a men's cycling team. Team ERRACE. It's an acronym, a brilliant acronym. Everyone Ride/Run Against Cancer Everyday. I live this acronym. Every time I lace up my running shoes or clip in for a ride, I am ERRACE. Sometimes I imagine if I run or ride fast enough, cancer won't catch me or harm my family or friends again. Sometimes I imagine I am running or riding straight at cancer and if I go hard enough, the force will blow it up and "errace" cancer from all of our lives. I know this isn't real, just a picture for you of the thoughts that run through my head as I exercise... What is real is this team I race for. Team ERRACE is a real force. On the race course and everyday. Living the acroynm. I am so proud to be a part of this team.
This Saturday, July 12th is ERRACE's main event. There is a 25, 50, and 100 mile ride, a 20 mile mountain bike ride and a 5K run/walk. All money raised goes directly to the 2 charities ERRACE supports, the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital and the Livestrong Foundation. Our whole team will be there providing support across all of the rides. I have chosen to do the 25 mile ride because my daughter, Carolyn wants to participate. She has been following in my footsteps, trying cyclocross last year and she just did her first criterium this past Tuesday. Seeing her on the bike makes my heart smile, and I imagine soon enough I will be trying to stay on her wheel. I can't wait to ride with her on Saturday. As always, I do everything in the spirit of my mom. She was a great competitor and I miss her immensely. This ride I will have someone else on my mind and in my heart. My daughters' best friend's mom is fighting cancer. She is a gracious, kind soul and a good friend and a wonderful mother. I am grateful to have her family in our lives. Carolyn and I dedicate our ride on Saturday to Kristen Dahl.
Please help by making a donation to our ride.
Thank you so much for helping me ERRACE cancer!
Love,
Sheridan & Carolyn
