Hello dear friends, and Yay, you're here! This isn't my first time fundraising for the Hot Chocolate Run, so I'm guessing you may have been here before. And here you are again, supporting me in my work with Safe Passage. I continue to be in awe of your generosity. Damn good people, every one of you.
I grew up in a home with domestic violence. It was over 35 years ago when the tooth fairy visited me in a shelter for battered women. I was maybe 7 years old, in a place I didn't know, sleeping in a bed with a pillow that wasn't mine. The tooth fairy left me a quarter under that pillow and I'll never forget it. It was an organization much like Safe Passage that gave me a lasting gift: whatever violence that led us to flee that night is no longer a memory, but getting that quarter is.
I'm going to run the HCR in memory of my mom, Sheila Leonard, and for hope, safety, and justice. And, tooth fairies everywhere.
My thank you is heartfelt.
xo, Tasha
Here are some ways Safe Passage will put your gift to work:
$30: Resources, support and hope for a woman calling the 24-hour hotline
$55: A survivor's first counseling session. For many of Safe Passage's clients, this is the first time they've felt heard. It's the first time in years that they've felt hopeful.
$120: A drop-in support group session for survivors of domestic violence
$225: Information, advice and support for a survivor facing a divorce or custody dispute
$500: Healing counseling for a child who has witnessed violence

You can make a difference for families affected by domestic violence. I hope you’ll join me!
