Thanks for checking out my Hot Chocolate Run fundraising page! On December 7, I'm so excited to be running in the 11th Annual Hot Chocolate Run 5k. The event raises funds for Safe Passage, the organization addressing domestic violence in Hampshire County, MA.

As most of you know, I am running in memory of Alyssiah Wiley, an Eastern student who was murdered by her boyfriend in May 2013.
Her death affected me deeply, so although I was never a runner by any stretch (I always used to joke that I would only run if Zora and Maia were chasing me in a game of tag!), I decided to run my first 5k.  I teach about issues of domestic violence and it is a difficult and personal subject for so many of us, so last year, I trained to run this event - which was scary!  Thanks to the overwhelming support from every corner of my life (seriously... I was floored), I was the 8th highest individual fundraiser (out of 5,500 runners and walkers!) for the event.  Altogether, Safe Passage raised $293,000!  Since then, I have run a race a month but the Hot Chocolate Run is definitely my favorite, and the one that means the most to me.

Like last year, I will be running with a ribbon armband that has Alyssiah's name and the names of every contributor.

Will you join me in supporting this terrific organization?

Every day, Safe Passage helps survivors of domestic violence take steps towards a brighter and safer future. Some of these steps are easier, and some are harder. Every step is important.

Before I run, I’ve decided to Step Up for Safe Passage, and I’m asking you to join me. Please make a donation to support Safe Passage’s important work. Safe Passage relies on people like you and me to bring hope, safety, and justice to women and families.

Here are some ways Safe Passage will put your gift to work:

$25: Resources, support and hope for a woman calling the 24-hour hotline

$50: A survivor's first counseling session. For many of Safe Passage's clients, this is the first time they've felt heard. It's the first time in years that they've felt hopeful.

$120: A drop-in support group session for survivors of domestic violence

$225: Information, advice and support for a survivor facing a divorce or custody dispute

$500: Healing counseling for a child who has witnessed violence

All contributions are tax-deductible, and you’ll receive an emailed receipt immediately after you donate.

You can make a difference for families affected by domestic violence. I hope you’ll join me!
