Thanks for visiting my Hot Chocolate Run fundraising page! On December 7, I'm participating in the 11th Annual Hot Chocolate Run. This great event raises funds for Safe Passage, the organization addressing domestic violence in Hampshire County.
Will you join me in supporting this terrific organization?
Here are some ways Safe Passage will put your gift to work:
$30: Resources, support and hope for a woman calling the 24-hour hotline
$55: A survivor's first counseling session. For many of Safe Passage's clients, this is the first time they've felt heard. It's the first time in years that they've felt hopeful.
$120: A drop-in support group session for survivors of domestic violence
$225: Information, advice and support for a survivor facing a divorce or custody dispute
$500: Healing counseling for a child who has witnessed violence
All contributions are tax-deductible, and you’ll receive an emailed receipt immediately after you donate.
Last year I ran my first 5K in the Hot Chocolate Run. At that time, I was running because my mother removed my brother and me from an abusive childhood before it could instill in us a continuation of the cycle of violence in our lives. My experience moved me to tears, as I watched my community rally to the cause that I have been advocating all my life.
Six months after my run, I came to realize that I was, myself, in an abusive relationship. With the help of Safe Passage, and nearly 6 months of effort, I have managed to restart my life almost completely. I am trying to give back to this incredible organization which offered me weekly counseling, completely free of charge, while I got things back in my control. Though I am transitioning out of their care these days, I still need to call on them sometimes. Every time I do this, I cost them $55. I hope that this organization, and those like it, continue to function well so that people like me, and people who had it worse, can get the help they need.
Thank you so much for your support! If you want to register for the event or learn more about it, visit http://hotchocolaterun.com.
